AbOUT TIM AARON - THE RODMAKERAfter spending 20 years on the water and in the shop, living everywhere from Florida to Oregon, I decided to combine my two passions and start Aaron Bamboo Rods.
I remember the day I bought my first fly rod. I never wanted to put it down. It was a small 5 wt, but I managed to figure out ways to use that rod for everything from trout to catfish to grouper. My goal as a rod maker is to make the fishing rod that you never want to put down. A rod that you enjoy casting as much as you enjoy fishing. A rod as special as your first rod. Fishing for me is a special time - and I imagine it is for you as well. The biggest reward I receive in this whole endeavor is to think that of all the rods someone could choose to fish with - they chose an Aaron Bamboo Rod. I know that won't happen unless I make a rod that excels in every aspect of fishing as well as in its aesthetics. It is that goal that often causes me to make a u-turn on the way to the river and head back to the shop. The never ending journey towards the perfect rod is as intoxicating and addictive as fishing is for me. This is why I am a rod maker |
ABOUT THE RODSTake a look at this short video and you will get a glimpse into how a rod is made. 60 hours of splitting, beveling, planning, glueing, sanding, wrapping and varnishing all condensed into a 2 minute video.
In my opinion, with few exceptions, nothing can match bamboo as a material for for light spinning and fly fishing rods.
Neither graphite or fiberglass allow a rod maker to tailor a rod for a specific person and specific fishing situation. While customization is possible, both fiberglass and graphite rod constructions lend themselves to a one size fits all solution because they are generally produced in large quantities. This is not the case with bamboo. Every rod that comes out of my shop is custom made one at a time. Bamboo not only allows me to craft a rod for any situation - it also allows me to express my creativity and artistic side. |
